Local Needs Housing.
There was a superb response to the Lanner Local Needs Housing Survey with getting on to a quarter of all households making their views known on this important issue and on the general pattern of future housing development in the parish.
The conclusion from the survey is that 11 new homes are required for people meeting the local needs housing criteria, though the parish council is willing to support the provision of 12 bearing in mind that it may be about a year before the first one is occupied. Also in line with what local people have been strongly insistent on, the parish council will not support all of these homes being built in one location but wishes to see smaller scale developments which will be easier for the community to assimilate.
With receding public funding for social housing it is now recognised that, in order to finance affordable homes, some open-market housing needs to be allowed to be mixed in with local needs homes if the private sector is to fill the void. Some new housing of this nature is therefore inevitable if we are to meet the need within the parish. About half of the local needs housing requirement is for one and two bedroom homes and the other half for larger homes where there are established families. It is likely that another survey will be carried out in about five years’ time.
The parish council remains opposed to the proposed Coastline scheme at Tresavean Farm which is considered inappropriate in terms of size and location. Brushing aside the community's views on this issue, Cornwall Council gave Coastline planning permission for 25 new homes at this location on 1 February 2011. The parish council is taking advice on how it can best respond to the decision.
